Book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, Music by George Gershwin, Lyrics by Ira Gershwin
Awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1932, this early George Gershwin work not only showcases the composer’s breezy, signature jazz style but exemplifies the period of American musical theatre when composers wrote for legitimate, non-amplified voices. The plot which involves a beleaguered president and a topsy-turvy White House adds an amusing contemporary resonance. Sandra Horst conducts this Canadian premiere with costumes by Lisa Magill, set by Anna Treusch, lighting by Paul Major and stage direction by Michael Patrick Albano.
