Biography:
Based in Vienna, Austria, Berndt Thurner studied percussion at the Carinthian Conservatory in Klagenfurt, Austria and later at the Sweelinck Conservatoriurn Amsterdam where he graduated with the distinction “uitvoerend musicus.” As a versatile percussionist, his performance activities range from jazz, improvisation to contemporary chamber and solo music. He is passionate about sharing his music and performance activities and has received many grants and opportunities which allow him to bring his music performances to different parts of the world. He has appeared as a soloist in many festivals including Wien modern, Holland festival, and IGNM World Music Days. Berndt Thurner is currently working on project Night Suite—five nights of vibraphone solo music composed by American composer Stuart Saunders Smith who Thurner collaborates closely with.
