Description:
The third part of Bach’s Clavier Übung (BWV 669-689) is an edifice of the Baroque organ repertory, consisting of over 75 minutes of exquisitely beautiful free works and chorale settings, which provide an encyclopedic overview of Bach’s mature compositional voice. Perhaps surprisingly, these works find an uncommon ally when transcribed for the bayan, an instrument with a similar operating principle and design to the accordion. What unique perspectives on the expressive capacities of both instruments can be experienced at the intersection of the Clavier Übung? What can we learn about the structure of this complex music through the transcription process?
