The University of Toronto Graduate Music Conference seeks to provide graduate students from across North America with a platform to share their work with their peers in a supportive and professional environment. This two-day conference is dedicated to exceptional scholarship on music, sound, and culture, including performance as research, by graduate students from all disciplines, presented in paper, panel, and lecture-recital formats.
We are honoured to welcome Dr. William Cheng as our keynote speaker, with a presentation titled "Glimpsing Within Music a Moral Universe Where People Are Neither Exonerable by the Best They’ve Ever Sounded Nor Reducible to the Worst Things They’ve Ever Done". Dr. Cheng is Chair and Associate Professor of Music at Dartmouth College. He holds a PhD in musicology from Harvard University and conducts research and teaches varied courses in history, media, ethics, disability, race, and digital games. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's conference will be virtual (via Zoom). There will also be a Discord channel for presenters and attendees to connect and share ideas before, during, and after the conference. Details for the Zoom sessions and Discord channel will be provided at a later date. We look forward to welcoming everybody to "virtual UofT" for what promises to be an inspiring conference!
This conference is generously sponsored by the Music Graduate Students' Association.
