Queer Liberation Disco – U of T Queer Orientation
Event location will be emailed upon registration.
Queer Orientation is an opportunity for new and returning students, staff, faculty and librarians to make connections with other 2SLGBTQ+ people, engage in activities and have discussions related to 2SLGBTQ+ communities at U of T.
Get ready to sparkle and shine at our Queer Disco, a fabulous celebration of queer liberation, music, movement, community and joy!
In collaboration with Hart House, the Faculty of Music, the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education, and Queer U of T Employees (QUTE), we’re turning up the glitter and grooving to the greatest DISCO hits with our amazing DJ Veronica Electronica* (a Faculty of Music alum!) spinning tracks that celebrate love, freedom, and fierce self-expression.
What to expect:
- A brief history of some Canadian queer liberatory movement and music practices;
- Non-stop dancing;
- Tasty snacks;
- A dry bar with refreshing drinks;
- Crafty fun;
- A whole lot of queer joy!
Need a break from the dance floor?
Swing by the Get Crafty! Button-Making Station to design your own custom button and show off your unique style. All materials are provided. No experience needed, just your creativity!
Whether you join us to dance, create or just vibe with community, Queer Disco is the place to be. Come as you are and bring your sparkle!
* Veronica Electronica (Veronica Zupanic) is a DJ and Faculty of Music alum who is currently based in Toronto. Her love of underground dance music can be heard in her mixes, like the one featured on Deadbeat Radio’s Milkmaid Radio (host DJ Baba Yaga). She’s passionate about creating joyful, inclusive dance floors that invite movement, connection and collective release.
