Alan Klaus' debut solo CD gives First Light to a stunning array of new Canadian repertoire for trumpet, piano, strings, and electronics themed on the interplays between darkness and light, struggle and hope, the natural and spiritual. Along with Sarah Bowker on piano, Alan Klaus will also perform with accompaniment tracks from his CD including Nancy Dahn, Vernon Regehr, Phil Roberts, Andrew Staniland, and members of the Newfoundland Symphony string section.
Biography
Trumpeter Alan Klaus joined the faculty at Memorial University in 2012 after previously serving on faculty at Montana State University and Mount Allison University. A featured soloist with the PEI Symphony Orchestra and at the Atlantic Band Festival, he has also given recitals and masterclasses across North America. Alan was a member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, toured China as Principal Trumpet of the American Festival Orchestra, and has performed with Opera on the Avalon, Bozeman Symphony Orchestra, Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra London (Canada), the World of Winds, the International Youth Wind Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the National Youth Band of Canada. Alan completed his doctorate at Florida State University under Dr. Christopher Moore and his treatise is titled "A performer’s guide to Canadian works for unaccompanied trumpet and solo trumpet with piano." This support of Canadian music has continued through commissioning six new works and a new arrangement in the process of recording his debut solo album, First Light.
