Message from Lorna MacDonald

Captivated since childhood by the history of Cape Bretton Island and the story of Alexander and Mabel Bell, UofT Music’s Lorna MacDonald created a musical drama ‘The Bells of Baddeck’ to bring to life the incredible story of a great inventor and his wife.

They soon fell in love with the people, the music and the Gaelic charms of the island and eventually made it their primary residence.

 The Bells of Baddeck tells the story of kites and flights, sounds and deafness, a great inventor (Alexander) and a strong advocate for deaf education, women and children (Mabel).
