Sound, Meaning, Education’s 3rd bi-annual conference took place September 19-21st. UofT steering committee members, Prof. Antía González Ben (Music Education) and Dr. Laura Menard (Research & Partnerships Office) hosted a Toronto-based satellite of the main conference at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff. Toronto-based presentations included “One Ear In, One Ear Out: Black Fugitivity and the Politics of Headphone Use in Schools” by Antía; “Teaching from an Improvisatory Stance: Reimagining Pedagogy Practice in the Context of Colonialism” by Prof. Douglas Friesen (alumn, Wilfrid Laurier University) and Dr. Matias Recharte (alumn); “’Tell me a sound that’s better than THIS’: Examining sonic judgement in Music Education” by Laura; and the digital playground (pictured above) by electronic duo Moonbean.
