Soprano Nathalie Paulin has established herself in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Far East as an interpretive artist of the very first rank. Winner of a Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Opera Performance, she has collaborated with internationally renowned conductors including Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sir Roger Norrington, Bernard Labadie, Robert Spano, Kent Nagano and Mario Bernardi, amongst others, on both the concert platform and in opera. As well, critics have been lavish in their praise. Reviewing for the New York Times, Steve Smith noted that "Paulin [sings] with rich tone and compelling emotion.", while Renaud Machart from Paris’ Le Monde writes: “Nathalie Pauiln was impeccable in diction, musicality and style”. Ms. Paulin was featured by L’Opéra de Montréal as Mélisande in PELLÉAS ET MÉLISANDE, and Norina in DON PASQUALE, the title role of Handel’s SEMELE for Chicago Opera Theater, Arizona Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria, as well as the title role in MANON for Calgary Opera, Opera de Québec and Opera Lyra Ottawa, including a radio broadcast of the latter on CBC and Radio-Canada. She has also been heard as Pamina in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE for Vancouver Opera, Antonia in THE TALES OF HOFFMANN and Susanna in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO for Cincinnati Opera, Micaëla in CARMEN for Opéra de Québec and Calgary Opera, and The Dallas Opera featured her in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE (Mozart), THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN (Janacek), CARMEN (Bizet) and THE MERRY WIDOW (Lehar).
Ms. Paulin has appeared with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (Holland), at the Wexford Festival Opera (Ireland), and with Bard Summerscape (New York). Further engagements included Mozart’s REQUIEM with Toronto’s Talefmusik as well as with Alberta Ballet; Handel’s MESSIAH everywhere in Canada and in the United-States, notably with The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Symphony (Portland). Ms Paulin has sung Claude Vivier’s LONELY CHILD for the CBC orchestra in Vancouver, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Trois Rivières and the Windsor Symphony; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Seattle Symphony; the role of Micaëla (CARMEN) with Opera Tampa (Florida); the title role in CALISTO (Cavalli) with Cincinnati Opera; and several concerts with Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society. Recent and upcoming enagagements include, the role of the Countess in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO for Opera Lyra Ottawa; Beethoven’s Mass in C for Toronto’s Tafelmusik; CARMINA BURANA for the Lanaudière Festival; scenes from OEDIPE A COLONE, SAPHO and MEDÉE for Opera Lafayette (Washington D.C. and New York City); MESSIAH for Portland Baroque Orchestra (Oregon) and Naples Philharmonic (Florida), and Mahler #2 for Kingston Symphony and for Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.
Nathalie Paulin has been teaching voice as well as French Mélodie for undergraduate students and Advanced French Lyric Diction for graduate students at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto, since 2008. Nathalie has also been on faculty at VISI (Vancouver International Song Institute), Orford Music and at the Stratford Summer Music Vocal Academy.
