Residence deadline is approaching.

Students eligible for the residence guarantee must submit their residence application via the U of T Residence Portal by March 31.

This may mean applying before you have received your admission decision.

Visit your JOIN U of T Portal often to find information about the documents required to ensure your application is complete. A final admission decision cannot be made until your file is complete.

Prepare for Entrance Theory Exam

Applicants who are offered admission to the Faculty of Music will be required to complete the Entrance Theory Exam.

This test is administered online/electronically in mid-April and will be completed asynchronously.

Concepts tested differ for Classical and Jazz exams; learn more about theory prerequisite materials.

Admission Scholarships

The Faculty of Music awards Entrance Scholarships based on academic achievements and musical abilities assessed during auditions. All applicants are automatically considered for these scholarships.

UTAPS Need Navigator

Several awards are specifically set aside for Ontario residents who can show financial need. If you reside in Ontario, it is highly recommended that you complete the University of Toronto Advanced Planning for Students (UTAPS) Need Navigator online to check if you qualify for these awards. Remember to submit the UTAPS form online before February 28th.

Awards Profile

The University of Toronto also offers awards on the basis of financial need, academic merit, demonstrated leadership and other specific criteria. To apply, submit the Awards Profile through the JOIN U of T Portal. 

Apply for Residence

If you are considering staying in residence, you must express your interest by completing the application on the  U of T Residence Portal by March 31 at the latest. This means that you may need to submit the application before you have received your audition results. Missing this deadline will disqualify interested students from the residence guaranteeand students will be placed on the waiting list.

Receive audition/admission results

Audition results and offer recommendations will be sent from the Faculty of Music by email by mid-April at the latest.

Official admissions decisions from University Admissions & Outreach will be available on the JOIN U of T Portal for all applicants once their academic assessment has been deemed complete. We encourage all applicants to ensure they have submitted any requested documents on the Join U of T portal to expedite the release of their official decisions from University of Toronto Admissions & Outreach.

How to accept an offer

Accept on OUAC

Once an official offer is available through your JOIN U of T Portal you may accept the offer through the OUAC by the given deadline.

Accept with the Faculty of Music

Complete the Teacher Preference Form included in your offer recommendation letter from the Faculty of Music by the indicated deadline. 

This is also serve as your acceptance as the offer to the Faculty of Music confirming your program and instrument.

Pay admission deposit (if required)

Some international students will be required to pay an admission deposit for the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) process. Refer to your offer letter in your JOIN U of T Portal to find out if and when you are required to pay an admission deposit.

Satisfy your offer conditions

Most admission decisions are conditional upon achieving acceptable final standing. Students enrolled in high school or post-secondary students at the time of application are expected to maintain consistent academic performance and must submit final official transcripts. Details on meeting your conditions will be outlined on your JOIN U of T Portal.

Teacher requests & transfer credits

Applied teacher preferences

All students receive one-on-one Applied Lessons on their major instrument for at least the first two-years of study. When accepting an offer of admission, you will have the opportunity to indicate up to three (3) preferred teachers with whom you wish to study. 

Placement in the teachers' studios is done in conjunction with the Performance Office and Faculty Area Heads.

Transfer Students

If you are offered admission into an upper year or have any post-secondary credits you will be required to submit an application for transfer credits at the time that you accept your offer.
