Courses & Registration Summer Session
Arts & Science
Faculty of Music students may choose to take Arts & Science courses offered in the summer session (May – August).
The following information refers to the Summer 2025 session.
Summer enrolment for Music students opens on ACORN on April 7th, 2025 at 6 a.m. EST.
The Arts & Science summer timetable is available via Timetable Builder.
Students are also able to enrol in courses at UTM and UTSC (you can check summer course offerings via Timetable Builder); however, note that the sessional dates are different for each of the campuses; the dates below apply to the Summer session at the St. George Campus. Enrolment in UTM and UTSC courses opens for Music students on April 8, 2025.
Courses may be offered in-person, online or as hybrids; the mode of delivery will be indicated on the Timetable Builder. Make sure to check the delivery information in the Timetable Builder for specific details about how a course will be offered. For example, some courses that are delivered online may require in-person assessments. In addition, Timetable Builder also provides course descriptions by discipline, as well as prerequisites, co-requisites and exclusions.
In the summer session, the maximum course load is 2.0 credits, with no more than 1.0 credits per term. All courses, with the exception of those requiring departmental approval for enrolment, have the waitlist option. Students of the Faculty of Music are able to be on a waiting list for a maximum of 2.0 credits (this can be any combination of half or full courses). However, "waitlisted" courses count towards your maximum allowable course load of 2.0 credits.
The maximum permitted load for the summer session is 2.0 credits, and you will be considered a part-time student. Your academic fees for the session will be based on the weight of the courses. In addition to the academic fees, you are responsible for the compulsory incidental fees.
Details on fees will be available via Student Accounts and ACORN (if you are enrolled in course(s) on April 15th.
As a part-time student, the last date to cancel a course with no academic penalty is not the same as the last date to be eligible for a refund. The Faculty of Music Refund Schedule will be available via Student Accounts on April 15th.
You will be able to view/print a fees invoice from ACORN, once you have enrolled in courses. You can pay your fees at any one of the chartered banks using telephone or online payment options. The payee name will be the “University of Toronto” and your account number is displayed on the top right-hand corner of your fees invoice. It consists of the first five characters of your surname and 10 numbers which is your student number with leading zeroes unless it begins with “1”. This will be your proof of payment.
It will take 3-5 business days for the payment from a major Canadian financial institution to be posted to your ACORN account; however, the transfer from a Canadian credit union could take longer. If you check your account on ACORN and do not see the payment posted to your account, check again in a few days. There are daily updates from the bank to the University.
All payments are applied to the charges on your account according to the algorithm of 'oldest first'. This means that the oldest outstanding charge in the oldest session will be cleared first; there is no distinction between the type of charge, e.g. residence fees, academic fees etc.
If you pay your fees or request a deferral (on ACORN, if you are receiving provincial funding for the summer) by April 23rd, 2025 your registration will be done automatically.
If you pay your fees or request a deferral after April 23rd, you must e-mail your proof of payment to the Registrar’s Office (registrar.music@utoronto.ca) by 4:00 pm on May 7, 2025 at the latest to register. In the e-mail, make sure you include your student number. This is the deadline, even if you are taking only courses for the second term.
If you have not registered (and submitted proof of payment) by May 7, 2025 at 4:00pm, you will be removed from the courses in which you are enroled.
Please note that students will not be allowed to register for the summer session until outstanding fees from the previous sessions have been cleared.
You can check to see if you are registered on ACORN. Once you log in, you will see your registration status for current and future sessions. If your registration status for 2025 Summer is "Registered", your registration is complete. If your status is "Invited", you need to pay or defer your fees or risk being removed from your courses! You should check your status in a few days after you have paid to be safe.

Students who are Ontario residents and studying in the summer semesters are able to apply for OSAP. They can also apply for a Summer OSAP Extension if they received full-time OSAP in the Fall and/or Winter term(s) and they are applying for additional funding for full-time summer studies.
Further information on summer OSAP and eligibility.
Students who are residents of other provinces/territories should check with their home province/territory for summer term funding options.
