Develop the Skills
The learning experience is all-encompassing. Limited enrolment ensures that students receive intensive, personalized coaching in singing, repertoire preparation, audition techniques, diction, acting and stagecraft, choreography, and movement. Students develop performance expertise in workshops and masterclasses culminating in full-scale on-stage public productions with orchestra, sets, and costumes.

U of T Opera studies connects students to extraordinary teachers, distinguished guest coaches, and exceptional facilities. Student productions are staged in the 815-seat MacMillan Theatre, a full-size opera venue with a fly tower and orchestra pit for 50 musicians. Russel Braun, Terasa Strata, Ben Heppner, Measha Brueggergosman, Barbara Hannigan and many other renowned alumni testify to the strength of our programs.

Toronto is home to a vibrant opera culture offering students exposure to a repertoire ranging widely from celebrated greats to newly commissioned works. Our faculty regularly contribute to the artistic endeavours of Toronto-based opera companies such as the Canadian Opera Company, Tapestry Opera, and Opera Atelier. Our graduates are consistently chosen to join young artist programs at these and other opera companies worldwide.
