National Day of Remembrance and Action for Violence Against Women

« Back

A message from Dean Hisama:

On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the Faculty of Music and University of Toronto will join communities across Canada for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women to honour the lives of the 14 women killed in a devastating act of misogyny at Montreal’s École Polytechnique in 1989.

You can learn more here: The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

I welcome all members of our community to join in honouring the victims of this tragedy on this day, Tues. Dec 6, by wearing a white ribbon. We have purchased 200 white ribbons for our community, and they will be available in the EJB lobby, Dean’s Office, Reception, and the 3rd floor student lounge for you to take and wear in commemoration.

There will also be a special performance on December 6 from 12:00-1:30pm in Walter Hall of EJB led by Mia Bach’s 3rd Year Oratorio Class, entitled From Requiem to Light.

As well, the Faculty of Music Undergraduate Associate (FMUA) is also recognizing the commemoration of this day by asking all students, staff, and faculty to wear white in order to show their support in taking action on violence against women.

The University will also be recognizing this event centrally at Hart House. Learn more

We hope you are able to join us in recognizing this important day and honouring the lives of these women lost.
