Since its premiere in Vienna in 1824, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony has often been performed to mark occasions of historic significance, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. The Faculty of Music is proud to continue that tradition by commemorating the bicentennials of Beethoven’s death and the founding of the University of Toronto, events that occurred just eleven days apart in March 1827.
