Biographical Note
Professor Zimfira Poloz is teaching course “ Vocal Pedagogy for Young Choirs” at University of Toronto, Music Faculty as well is artistic Director of both - Young Voices Toronto, Children’s Choir in residence of University of Toronto and award-winning Hamilton Children’s Choir. She has been decorated with numerous awards in her long career, including the Honoured Representative of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Award, the city of Hamilton's V.I.P. Award, and the Leslie Bell Prize Award for Choral Conducting, OAC.
Zimfira first established her musical credentials in Kazakhstan, founding the country's first Choir School. The school provided an outstanding music program that grew to employ 35 full time- music teachers with an enrollment of 450 children.
Zimfira Poloz was honored to serve important choral events as clinician, guest conductor and adjudicator organized by Choral Associations, Universities, IFCM, Polyfollia, Europa-Cantat, America-Cantat, Interekultur throughout Canada, Europe, Asia and South and North America Young Voices Toronto as the children's choir perform with U of T ensembles, and provide the lab choirs for various workshops for U of T students and music teachers. YVT appear as a guest choir at the Podium- National Choral Conferences, World Choral Games in Latvia as demonstration choir, appear at the Roy Thomson Hall with TSO, as well the RTH annual series –Free Noon Hour Choir & Organ Concerts.
Under Poloz’s direction, Hamilton Children’s Choir invited for top choral events around the globe and has a long list of national and international “Grand Prize” awards, including CBC Radio National Choral Competition, World Choral Singing Competition, European Broadcasting Union Choral Competition “ Let the People Sing”, 1st Xinghai Prize International Choral Competition . HCC is selected as a showcase choir for the 10th World Choral Symposium, South Korea as well as Polyfollia- World Showcase, France.
