Biography

Anton Vishio is an Associate Professor. He has taught music theory, aural skills, and composition for some 25 years at a variety of institutions; before coming to Toronto he taught at William Paterson University (2014-2021), and he has also served on the faculties of McGill University, Vassar College, and NYU-Steinhardt. He has published analytical work on composers such as Donald Martino, Jo Kondo, Brian Cherney, and Charles Wuorinen; subjects of recent conference presentations include music by Priaulx Rainier, the theory of polyrhythms, and the songs of Rabindranath Tagore. He has performed as a pianist for many years, with the percussionist Peter Jarvis and the New Jersey Percussion Ensemble, in a performance seminar organized by the violinist Paul Zukofsky, and with the Neidhöfer-Vishio piano duo; in 2020 and 2021 he presented solo recitals at Paterson and at the Monteux School in Hancock, Maine. Recent compositions include works for solo piano, solo violin, and singing percussionist.
