Biography
Camille Watts has been a flutist and solo piccoloist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1990, positions she held previously with the Atlanta and Denver Symphonies. She has also performed with Atlanta Opera, Opera Colorado and as principal flute with Central City Opera.
Camille attended the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a National Merit Scholar, in the studio of Kyril Magg, graduating summa cum laude with honors. At 21, she became the youngest player in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under Robert Shaw, touring, recording, and performing as soloist. She continued her studies with Keith Underwood, Robert Dick, Jack Wellbaum, and Walfrid Kujala.
In Toronto, Camille has performed as piccolo soloist with the TSO, and played chamber music with Belladonna, Ergo, and HearHere. She has played with the Canadian Opera Company, onstage with Soulpepper Theatre, and in the pit with Miss Saigon playing western and Chinese flutes. She has performed on many pop and classical recordings, as well as on film and TV soundtracks.
Camille teaches flute and coaches chamber music at the Faculty of Music, and is an Associate Member of the Graduate Faculty. She has also served as piccolo faculty at the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. As a massage therapist working with musicians, she joined a group of Toronto artists in creating the Artists’ Health Centre at Toronto Western Hospital, and serves on the Foundation Board of Directors.
