Chase Sanborn

Biography
Chase Sanborn grew up in a suburb of New York City, attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, and spent the formative years of his career in San Francisco. A highlight of this time was an extended international tour with Ray Charles.
Since moving to Toronto in 1981, Chase has been a mainstay of the jazz and commercial music scene. An extensive list of credits as a session musician includes appearances with Aretha Franklin and Diana Krall, as well as thousands of Broadway show performances and commercial recording sessions. As a leader, Chase has released five CDs featuring Toronto jazz luminaries Mark Eisenman, Reg Schwager, Rob Piltch, Steve Wallace, Pat Collins and Barry Elmes, with special guest appearances by Guido Basso and Carol McCartney.
Chase has been a member of the U of T Jazz faculty nearly since its inception in the early 1990s. He teaches Applied Trumpet, Improvisation, Jazz History and Small Jazz Ensemble. He also coordinates and hosts the weekly jazz masterclass series and acts as webmaster for the U of T Jazz website (www.uoftjazz.ca).
The author of a series of educational books, videos and CDs, Chase published his 7th book, The Brass Tactics 6/60 Routine, in 2016. He wrote the brass column for Canadian Musician magazine for a decade, has been a brass columnist for Half Time magazine since 2008, and currently serves as editor and jazz columnist for the International Trumpet Guild Journal.
As a longstanding Yamaha Artist, Chase has presented clinics at schools and organizations throughout Canada and the United States.
