Biography
Jan has worked in academic libraries in Canada and the US since 1999. Her first professional position was at the University of Toronto at Scarborough, and she is extremely happy to have come full circle back to the U of T! She has also held positions of increasing responsibility at Red Deer College (AB), Washburn University (KS), and Memorial University (NL). From 2007-2017 she was the Head of the Music Library at the University of Manitoba. There, she managed the planning and move to a new music library from 2008-2015. She has an extensive record of service to institutions and to the library profession. Jan served on the Board of the Canadian Association of Music Libraries (CAML) from 2007-2014, including 2 years as President. She currently serves as CAML’s Nominations Officer. An active researcher, Jan completed a Graduate Professional Certificate in Library Sector Leadership in 2011 (University of Victoria), and regularly writes and presents at conferences. Current research interests are in academic library leadership and succession planning in higher education. Following a 6-month research study leave in 2013-2014, Jan published a book, Succession Planning in Canadian Academic Libraries (Chandos, 2015). As of 2017, a second book is in the works, on Music Library Management and Administration. This volume will explore such issues as staff development, strategic planning, budgeting, and succession planning in a music library context.
