Biography
A Lecturer at UofT Music, John Brownell received his PhD in Ethnomusicology from York University in 2003. As a scholar, his research interests include rhythmic organization in repetitive idioms and the history of percussion performance and pedagogy. As a performer, his teachers have included Peter Magadini, Russell Hartenberger, and Fred D. Hinger. John has taught graduate and undergraduate courses at many universities in southern Ontario.
