Biography

Karl Silveira is a Juno Nominated (Lemon Bucket Orkestra 2013) Trombonist from Toronto. He completed a Master of Music in Jazz Performance and Composition from the University of Toronto in 2019. Karl was also selected to attend the International Banff Jazz and Creative Music workshop in 2009 run by Dave Douglas. He has performed with many great musicians through the years including Clark Terry, Ben Monder, Christine Jensen, Jackie Richardson, Ingrid Jensen, Andrew Downing, Kurt Elling, Pat LaBarbara, and Dwayne Clemons. He plays regularly in many jazz projects around the city including The Harley Card Sunset Ensemble, Mike Herriott’s OTR Band, Soul in the City, The Orange Devils.

Karl works as a freelance trombonist in Toronto. Lately, he has been active in the music theatre community where he played Chicago (2018), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2018-2019) at The Mirvish Theatre and The King and I (2018) at The Princess of Wales Theatre. He has also performed with a wide range of artists outside the Jazz community including Steven Page, DVBBS, The Lemon Bucket Orkestra, and The Boxcar Boys (Canadian Folk Music Award Nominee 2013). Karl composes for and leads The Karl Silveira Quintet featuring Allison Au, Matt Newton, Dan Fortin and Nico Dann. They have recently completed a residency at The Rex in August 2019 and are looking forward to recording in the near future.
