Biography

After temporary teaching appointments at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Mary Ann Parker joined the Faculty in 1982. She is particularly interested in the music of Handel, and Italian opera and oratorio of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

She is the author (with Domenico Pietropaolo) of The Baroque Libretto (University of Toronto Press, 2011). In 2005, she completed a substantially revised edition of her book G.F. Handel: A Research Guide, published by Routledge. She is also the editor of Eighteenth Century Music in Theory and Practice: Essays in Honor of Alfred Mann (Pendragon, 1994). Her articles and reviews have appeared in (among others): The Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music & Letters, The University of Toronto Quarterly, The Händel-Jahrbuch and Göttinger Händel-Beiträge. Professor Parker is a Continuing Senior Fellow at Massey College.
