Biography

Canadian pianist, Dr. Megan Chang, is an active performer, teacher and adjudicator. She was the permanent national adjudicator for the 2019 Canadian Music Competition. Dr. Chang is a senior examiner for the Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations in North America. She was also one of the core founding member for University of Toronto’s Future Sound 6ix program, designed for racialized female-identifying and gender non-conforming youth to work at the university’s Electronic Music Studio.


Dr. Chang was born in Taiwan, and raised in Vancouver, Canada. During her years in Vancouver, her teachers included Yun Han Mao, Winfried Rompf and Edward Parker. She then relocated to pursue her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto, under the tutelage of Marietta Orlov. In 2007, in addition to her performance studies with Professor Orlov, she also joined the piano pedagogy department with Dr. Midori Koga, and received her Master’s degree in Piano Performance Pedagogy. She then received her Doctoral of Musical Arts with Professor Orlov, specializing in the music of Franz List and the application of orchestral sounds at the piano. Over the years, she’s performed in the Netherlands, Taiwan, USA and Canada. In addition to piano, Dr. Chang has also received her Flute Performer’s Diploma, under the tutelage of Susan Hoeppener.


Dr. Chang is currently teaching at the University of Toronto and was the recipient of the Faculty of Music Teaching Award in 2022.
