Biography

Dr. Rea Beaumont is a faculty member at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, a pianist, composer, educator, and author.

Beaumont is the recipient of the SOCAN Foundation/ MusCan Award of Excellence for the Advancement of Research in Canadian Music, a national award, and is considered “a world authority" (CBC) in the field. Her book Composer Barbara Pentland: The Music and the Message was a finalist for an IAWM Award. Her research has been presented in North America, South America, and Europe. 

Beaumont is known for her powerful performances and critically acclaimed albums that are often described as “beautiful” (American Public Media). A versatile composer, she continues to be commissioned by leading artists and organizations.

She studied at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, the University of British Columbia, Royal Conservatory of Music, Eastman School of Music, Osgoode Hall Law School, Le Centre d’Arts Orford, and The Banff Centre for the Arts, earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree, Master of Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Hon), Artist Diploma, ARCT Diploma, and a Certificate in Entertainment Law. She trained with pianists that include Anton Kuerti, Robert Silverman, Robert G. Rogers, and Menahem Pressler, and studied composition with Phil Nimmons, Gustav Ciamaga, and Edward Laufer.
