Biography
Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Travis Harrison is the bass teacher at University of Toronto, and is in demand internationally as a freelance soloist, chamber musician, and section leader. His deep love of music led him to his Toronto Symphony debut at age 18, the Montreal Symphony at 19, and to a tenured position with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra through his 20’s. He has performed as guest principal bass with the National Arts Centre and Canadian Opera Company Orchestras, and is the solo bassist for the Canadian Chamber Orchestra. Travis has often augmented groups such as the Thalea and Rosebud String Quartets, ARC Ensemble, Ensemble Soundstreams, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and Magisterra Soloists. He has served the bass community as a Board Chair of the International Society of Bassists, and co-authored “The Canadian School of Double Bass'' publications. Travis proudly performs on a bass commissioned from Montreal master luthier Mario Lamarre and bows by Ottawa’s Bernard Walke. More information can be found at www.travisharrison.ca
