Biography

Tyler began his career as a concert promoter, band manager, and musician in Minneapolis (B.A. Minnesota) and remains active in these areas in Toronto. He joined the Faculty of Music in March 2008 as Development Associate and since then his advancement portfolio has grown to include soliciting major gifts and overseeing the stewardship of our scholarships programs. He has made particularly significant contributions to building our alumni network through the creation of the program series Music Careers (2010), Music Mentorship (2013), and Finance for Musicians (2015), and moderating panels (2018-19) on music careers and entrepreneurship for ToMEE—the Toronto Music Entrepreneurship Exchange at U of T’s ONRamp. He was curator of the Faculty of Music’s 100th Anniversary website and managed our participation in the City’s Open Streets Festival (2017) and Doors Open Toronto (2018). He represents the University of Toronto on the Leadership Council of the Bloor St. Culture Corridor leading discussions with City Councillors, BIAs, and City of Toronto Economic Development Office. In 2019 he completed an eight-year term on the Board of Directors of Heritage Toronto. In addition to his work as an active citizen with a keen interest in urban planning and development, Tyler is a freelance musician and arranger working primarily with rock/pop bands (including The Weakerthans, FemBots, Laura Barrett, Nathan Lawr, and Tin Star Orphans). He is the proud father of two sons.
