The Master of Arts in Music and Health Sciences is a one-year degree taking a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the intersection of music and health. Students study music in relation to subjects such as neuroscience, psychology, palliative care, and rehabilitation medicine. Core Courses
All students study quantitative research methods, elementary improvisation methods, and neurosciences of music in three required half-courses (the equivalent of 1.5 full-year courses). They choose an additional three half-courses (the equivalent of 1.5 full-year courses) from a list of required courses on various music and health topics. These include a clinical research practicum.
Electives
Electives (the equivalent of one full-year course) are chosen from the offerings of the Faculty of Music or other related department with the approval of the candidate’s advisor.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Therapy or equivalent degree with an average standing of B or better over the final two years.
Applicants who have taken music therapy, psychology, kinesiology, and/or rehabilitation science courses are preferred. Entrants may be required to take appropriate prerequisite courses.
