Core Courses
Core courses prepare students for their comprehensive examinations and dissertation research. Students conduct independent research in ethnomusicology under the supervision of a faculty advisor. They also participate in a PhD seminar that culminates in writing a publication-quality paper.
Electives
Elective courses promote breadth. They include choices inside and outside of musicology, ethnomusicology, and theory as well as outside of the Faculty of Music.
Other Requirements
Students must complete language requirements, comprehensive and field examinations, and a thesis of original research in ethnomusicology.
