Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Music Education

The PhD in Music Education is a four-year research degree by thesis, comprehensive examination, and course work (totalling six full credits). The program guides students to an expert understanding of the field and equips them to conduct original research into educational practice and professional training.

Core Courses
The core of the program are graduate music education courses totalling the equivalent of two full credits. One of these courses, the equivalent of one full credit, is a music education doctoral research project.
Electives
With faculty approval, courses totalling four full credits may be chosen from the MA/MMus/PhD/DMA course list and/or from the list of a graduate department of another faculty within the university.
Other Requirements
Students must complete a comprehensive exam, an oral defense of the thesis proposal, and a thesis consisting of original research in Music Education.
