Designed for Community

Student success is nurtured in an inclusive, collaborative environment. Classes are small, one-to-one instruction is frequent, and support for and from peers is encouraged at every turn. Students from diverse backgrounds work to help each other realize their full musical potential. Faculty and staff know students by name and provide inspiration and positivity.

Our support also addresses material needs. All graduate and undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for centrally awarded scholarships as well as Faculty of Music scholarships awarded for academic merit and/or audition performance. Graduate students may apply for teaching assistantships and external research awards.

Set for Excitement

Context counts. The Faculty of Music is part of a great world university set in the core of a great multicultural city. Toronto offers students participation in a thriving cultural milieu in which music and the arts figure prominently. In historic concert and opera halls, outdoor festivals, happening clubs, and neighbourhood parks, the music scene embraces sounds of all places, styles, and genres.

Music is only a start. Toronto has great museums and art galleries, a famous international film festival (TIFF), a vibrant theatre scene (10,000 performances in 90 theatres annually), and the largest Pride Week in North America.

Students have ample opportunities for listening, learning, performing, and creating.
