TEXTS AND TRANSLATIONS

Chanter

Singing with love and friendship.
With a song, I feel joy and pride springing up within me.
My heart beats wildly, it races with the harmonies.
Sing, sing for freedom,
sing to be heard.
Always go higher,
always go further,
that’s life!

Friend, come and sing along and with all your heart.
We have to follow the wave.
We take the time for a song to conquer the world.
You have to learn to know yourself, learn to share, to open up to the world.
There are days when you are bored, hum a tune to escape.
Always go higher, always go further, that’s life!

Halleluja, Loof die Here

Halleluja, loof die Here,
Halleluja, prys Sy naam.
Prys en loof Sy heilige naam,
Want elke liewe glinsterende helder nuwe maan

Alleluia, praise the Lord,
Alleluia, praise His name.
For every bright new moon
Shines over the whole earth
With endless praise.
The stars flickering in the night sky,
The galaxies sparkling softly above us,
Are miracles of praise.
Even if the stars are far away,
Or dark clouds hide their light,
The Lord lives near our hearts.

A Lifelong Journey

Grasses and trees will sprout, and children will grow,
The years’ train halts for no one, it does not slow.
At fate’s station, joy and sorrow, meeting and parting, all fleeting.
People, like snowflakes, fly high and then start melting.

The world’s sorrows—love must part, and rain must fall,
The world’s sweetness—no matter how far, remember home’s call.
We, the ordinary, sustain a small flame under the eaves,
No matter the countless changes time weaves.

Wish you to cross through waves that rise and fall,
To stay beside the one you love through it all.
In the days when your mother grows old,
Listen as she slowly tells stories of childhood gold.

Wish you never forget your youthful face,
Nor fear the white hairs time may place.
If youth one day fades from memory, recall how we
Loved like fire, fiercely and free—
In this world, so worthy.

For every joy and sorrow, there are countless ways to live,
Through every change, the sun will rise and give.
We, the ordinary, whether rain, snow, wind, and frost,
With no need to know where we belong,
Following the seasons’ ebb and flow, still singing strong.

I wish you to cross through waves that rise and fall,
To stay beside the one you love through it all.
In the days when your mother grows old,
Listen as she slowly tells stories of childhood gold.

I also wish you never forget your youthful face,
Nor fear the white hairs time may place.
Like seeds, we grow, reaching for the sun’s warm rays,
In this soil, with all things, we bloom and raise.

If Tomorrow Were the Next Life

The years drift softly through our breath,
When we reach the end, do dreams find rest?
Between the dawns and dusks that blaze,
Our bodies turn, our souls erase.
When impermanence calls out your name,
Does your heart return the same?

Scenes around you play their part,
Unfamiliar, yet close to the heart.
We search and search, oh, where to start?
How to mend the broken pearl,
And sing the note that’s lost in swirl?

If tomorrow were the next life,
How would you face today’s own strife?
If tomorrow were the next life,
How would you face today’s own strife?

I guarded life with warmth and care,
Left footprints in the waves we share.
With mindful contemplation, I breathed a light,
And lit the cycle of life for future sight.

Wankantanhan Hotan’Inpe

Wankantanhan Hotan’inpe ye

Hena kinyan Wakinyan oyate
Ca Hotan’inpe ye

From above, they are making their voices heard
They are making their voices heard,
The Thunder Nation is flying
So they are making their voices heard.
They are making their voices heard

Ständchen

Leise flehen meine Lieder
Durch die Nacht zu Dir;
In den stillen Hain hernieder,
Liebchen, komm’ zu mir!

Flüsternd schlanke Wipfel rauschen
In des Mondes Licht;
Des Verräters feindlich Lauschen
Fürchte, Holde, nicht.

Hörst die Nachtigallen schlagen?
Ach! sie flehen Dich,
Mit der Töne süssen Klagen
Flehen sie für mich.

Sie verstehn des Busens Sehnen,
Kennen Liebesschmerz,
Rühren mit den Silbertönen
Jedes weiche Herz.

Lass auch Dir die Brust bewegen,
Liebchen, höre mich!
Bebend harr’ ich Dir entgegen!
Komm’, beglücke mich!

Non Nobis Domine    Softly my songs plead
through the night to you;
down into the silent grove,
beloved, come to me!

Slender treetops whisper and rustle
in the moonlight;
my darling, do not fear
that the hostile betrayer will overhear us.

Do you not hear the nightingales call?
Ah, they are imploring you;
with their sweet, plaintive songs
they are imploring for me.

They understand the heart’s yearning,
they know the pain of love;
with their silvery notes
they touch every tender heart.

Let your heart, too, be moved,
beloved, hear me!
Trembling, I await you!
Come, make me happy!

Non nobis domine tuo da Gloriam
Sed nomini tuo da Gloriam    Not unto us, Lord,
but your name be the Glory

Darest, O Soul

Darest thou now, O Soul,
Walk out with me toward the Unknown Region,
Where neither ground is for the feet, nor any path to follow?
No map, there, nor guide,
Nor voice sounding, nor touch of human hand,
Nor face with blooming flesh, nor lips, nor eyes, are in that land.

I know it not, O Soul;
Nor dost thou—all is a blank before us;
All waits, undream’d of, in that region—that inaccessible land.

Till, when the ties loosen,
All but the ties eternal, Time and Space,
Nor darkness, gravitation, sense, nor any bounds, bound us.

Then we burst forth—we float,
In Time and Space, O Soul—prepared for them;
Equal, equipt at last—(O joy! O fruit of all!) them to fulfil, O Soul.
