Pedram Khavarzamini, World Music Artist in Residence (2015-2016),  discusses the duty and pressures of Tombak playing. “It’s a duty of Tombak to keep everything tight together and that puts lots of pressure on you”.

A master Tombak player, Khavarzamini is keeper of traditional Iranian Tombak technique and repertoire. The rhythm of the Tombak, a goblet drum and the principal percussion instrument of Persian Music, reflects the rhythmic structure of Persian poetry.
